Biography:

Dr. Omotayo Francis Fagbule is a distinguished public health scientist and academician, specializing in community dentistry, global health, and tobacco control. He is widely acknowledged for his substantial contributions to research, education, and public health advocacy.
Academic Background: Dr. Fagbule earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.Ch.D) from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Global Health and a Master of Public Health (MPH). A Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in Community Dentistry (FWACS) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Community Dentistry (FMCDS), Dr. Fagbule is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Community Dentistry (Public Health Dentistry) at the University of Ibadan, demonstrating his dedication to advancing knowledge in his field.
Professional Affiliations: Dr. Fagbule is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT), International Association of Dental Research (IADR), Association of Dental Public Health Practitioners of Nigeria (ADPHP), Society for Adolescent and Young People’s Health in Nigeria (SAYPHIN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and Nigerian Dental Association (NDA).
Research and Academic Achievements: Recognized for outstanding contributions, Dr. Fagbule received the Femi Adenubi Prize for the Best Candidate in the Part II FMCDS Examination. Work Experience and Public Health Engagements: As a Community Dentist and Associate Lecturer in the Department of Periodontology and Community Dentistry, Dr. Fagbule plays a vital role in teaching and supervising dental students. He oversees primary oral health clinics, provides counseling and tobacco cessation services, conducts community-based oral health programs, coordinates school health programs, and actively engages with relevant stakeholders, including government and non-governmental organizations, on public health interventions, policy review, and development.

1. Title: School-based Dyad Study across Lifespan: Understanding Tobacco and Substances Use, Attitudes and Beliefs, and Perceptions and Knowledge of Industry Interference and Policy Impacts among a Youth Cohort in Nigeria – Pilot Survey
Funder: The Africa Centre for Tobacco Industry Monitoring and Policy Research
Brief Summary: A collaborative research with other researchers from Nigeria, South Africa, and USA. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence, incidence, and concurrent (sole, dual and poly) use of tobacco products and other substances among school-going adolescents and examine tobacco industry activities targeted at them to inform policy and advocacy initiatives
