The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (COMUI), on Friday, February 20, 2026, observed the 20th edition of its Monthly Workshop for a Well-Informed Workforce (MWWW). This is in continuance of its commitment to staff development and wellness. The milestone session featured a compelling lecture titled “Beat Sudden Death: Live Free from Heart, Brain, Lung Attacks”, delivered by Professor O. S. Ogah, Chairman of the College Capacity Development Committee.

The Provost, Professor T. O. Ogundiran, FAS, warmly welcomed participants to the Paul Hendrickse Lecture venue of the well attended workshop.

The facilitator, Professor Okechukwu Ogah, a Consultant Physician/Cardiologist at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, emphasized practical strategies for protecting cardiovascular, neurological, and respiratory health.
He identified major cardiovascular risk factors,some of which are : an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. He also outlined warning signs such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, and unexplained fatigue. Emphasizing prevention, he spoke on the need for maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, moderating alcohol, managing stress, and attending routine check-ups. Some of the participants had their blood pressure measured , received training on emergency response techniques, and were provided with personalized risk-assessment tools to manage their cardiovascular health effectively.

Earlier in the day, during the session dedicated to IT Tidbits, Mr. G. O. Atanda of the Information Technology Unit (ITU) spoke on “Data Cleaning and Formatting with Microsoft Excel.” Participants were guided through practical techniques for organizing datasets, correcting errors, standardizing entries, removing duplicates, and applying formatting tools to improve data accuracy and presentation.

In his closing remarks, the Provost emphasised that the purpose of the workshop was not to cause anxiety but to encourage participants to embrace the prevention of heart,lung and brain attacks.
The programme was attended by a cross section of both academic and non-teaching staff as well as the management team of CoMUI. The special guest of honour was Prof. J.A. Otegbayo, the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital. He was represented by Dr. Sesan Oluwasola, the Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (Research and Ethics). The programme was anchored by Mrs Funmilola Enobabor and Mr. M. O. Ogunbanjo, with multimedia coverage provided by the Biomedical Communication Centre (BCC, COMUI).
