CELEBRATING A TRAILBLAZER IN VIROLOGY: PROF. OYEWALE TOMORI AT 80

The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, celebrates a pioneer Virologist as he turns 80.
Professor Oyewale Tomori's commitment to the College has been astounding. As Head of the Department of Virology and Director of IAMRAT, his research led to the discovery of indigenous viruses like Kotonkan, Shamonda, Dugbe, Mokola, and Ilesha, placing the College among leading Virology institutions globally.

He earned the Nigerian National Order of Merit award for his work on infectious diseases and demonstrated leadership as Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. He combated Ebola with dedication to ensure that its spread was controled.
He served as Vice Chancellor of Redeemer's University, elevating it to one of Nigeria's best private universities.

A renowned Virologist, former President of the Nigeria Academy of Sciences, and member of the American Academy of Medicine, Prof. Tomori mentors the next generation of scientists.
