The Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor Temidayo Ogundiran FAS, is pleased to announce that Dr Ifeoma Ikeobi Eke of the MBBS Class of 1986 has attained Gold Donor status through her generous donation towards the ongoing student hostel project. She made the donation on her 60th birthday in honour of her parents, who gave her so much to excel.
Dr Eke has contributed a total of six thousand dollars ($6,000), including a recent gift of four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500), following her earlier donation of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500) in 2022. This thoughtful gift is made in honour of her parents, 93-year old Mr Isaiah and 85-year-old Mrs Ijeoma Ikeobi. They have both retired to live in her home town, Ozubulu in Anambra state.
Her father, Mr Isaiah Ikeobi, fondly known as Mr 101, was a lifelong chemistry teacher and the co-author of the African edition of the Holderness and Lambert Chemistry textbook, which many students used for their O-level studies. He served as Head of Science at the International School, University of Ibadan, and at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He was also a Chief Examiner in Chemistry for WAEC. Her mother, a teacher of English Literature and Fine Arts, quietly supported his mission with strength and grace.

On the specific motivation for giving in the honour of her parents, Dr Eke’s words are quoted as thus: “For my father, a lifelong chemistry teacher and co-author of the African Edition of Holderness and Lambert Chemistry textbook many of us used for O’ level, Head of Science at International School, University of Ibadan, and Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha; Chief Examiner, Chemistry, WAEC. For my mom, English Literature and Fine Arts teacher, who quietly remained a solid rock behind him.”
Dr Eke lives in Brookhaven, Georgia, and works as an urgent care paediatrician with the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She is blessed with two daughters who continue to make her proud. She also served on the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association North America (ICOMAA-NA) Executive Committee as Assistant Secretary some years back.
Her donation comes at a crucial time as the College and ICOMAA-NA increase awareness and fundraising efforts for the commencement of Blocks A and B of the new students’ hostel. These blocks are a central part of the six-block hostel development initiative, which is transforming student accommodation on campus.
A Personal Message from the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan
I welcome the news from Dr Modupe Sokunbi, MD, FAAP, President of the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association North America (ICOMAA-NA), about Dr Ifeoma Ikeobi Eke’s donation with great pride and delight. It is deeply encouraging to see this gift made in honour of her parents, both dedicated educators, and to know that it will serve as seed funding to inspire others to support the construction of Blocks A and B of our Students’ Hostel Building project.
Dr Eke’s leadership as a former Assistant Secretary of ICOMAA-NA is yet another reflection of her dedication to our shared cause. Her gift comes just days after the commissioning of the Philip Ozuah Hostel Block C on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, by the donor himself. Blocks D, E and F, supported respectively by General T.Y. Danjuma, an anonymous donor, and the alumni community, are nearing completion and will be commissioned in the coming months. We are determined that Blocks A and B will not be left behind.
Dr Eke has reminded us all of the journey we are on, and I am pleased to say that recent donations from members of the Class of 1985, including Dr Adegboyega Akenroye, who gave one million naira each, reflect the same generous spirit we celebrate today.
As we honour Dr. Eke, I call on all our alumni networks across the globe to join hands and give generously, so that our dream of completing the students’ hostel becomes a reality soon.
May the Lord bless Dr. Eke, grant her a long and fulfilled life, and bless her beloved parents in whose honour this gift has been made.
On behalf of the staff, students and alumni of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, I thank and celebrate Dr Ifeoma Ikeobi Eke for this kind and meaningful contribution.
