Biography

 I am Olufunmilayo Fawole a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. I am a Fellow of both the Nigerian and West African College of Medicine in Public Health (FMCPH) and (FWACP). I have a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and a PhD from the University of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Also, I am a Fellow of the South African Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (SAFRI/SA-FAIMER) and has a certificate in Case Study Development from Emory, Atlanta, USA. I am a medical Consultant at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and an adjunct Professor in San Diego State University, USA.
I am the current Director of the Office of International Programmes, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. I was the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2016-2020). My research work are focused on prevention of Gender Based Violence, STIs/HIV/AIDS, Adolescent Reproductive Health and Malaria Prevention and more recently on Outbreak Response and Digital Health Initiative. Outside the University, I have worked with the WHO as a National Surveillance Officer and later as the State Coordinator for Oyo State. I have also worked with the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) as Academic Coordinator and on my return served as the University’s Focal Person to the Programme. I provide technical expertise to the NCDC, Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and her implementing partners on Disease Control activities in Nigeria. I was listed among the World Top 2% researchers globally as compiled by the Stanford University for three consecutive years, 2020, 2021 and 2022 impact (Elsevier common data) year released in 2021, 2022 and 2023. I am the coordinator of the EDCTP Grant CSA2020E- 3134 for the MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics with specialty in Disease Outbreak and Epidemic Response.

1. Title: Girls Invest: Financial literacy and Empowerment to reduce Gender based violence among Girls and young women in Nigeria

2. Title: A landscape analysis for digital payment of health worker payments in Nigeria (Phase 1)

Brief Summary: This is a mixed method approach consisting of ) a desk review, 2) interviews of key informants, and 3) a stakeholders’ engagement to analysis of the local context, challenges, and opportunities for digitized health worker payments in Nigeria.

3. Title: Masters’ Programme in Epidemiology and Biostatistics with Specialization in Disease Outbreak and Epidemic Response in sub-Saharan Africa

Brief Summary: This is a 30 months Masters’ Programme to train a cohort of epidemiologists and biostatisticians (EPI Fellows- early to mid-career researchers) across sub-Saharan Africa in Master’s degree in with Specialization in Disease Outbreak and Epidemic Response, to meet the PH manpower challenges and strengthen the Epidemiologic and Laboratory Management capacity of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
