Dr. Adewumi recounted that the project began with the NeuroAIDS Training Programme in-country project grant of $30,000 in 2019, which enabled the procurement of key equipment and establishment of the NMVL. In 2023, Professor Babafemi O. Taiwo, Principal Investigator of the NeuroAIDS Training Programme, further approved an additional $59,000 to procure more equipment, including Nanopore Sequencing Technology. To resolve space constraints, Dr. Adewumi invested about N30 million from his collaborative research funds in early 2025, expanding the facility into the state-of-the-art laboratory commissioned today. He expressed deep gratitude to his mentors and collaborators for their unwavering support in bringing the vision to reality. Dignitaries were taken on a guided tour of the laboratory.
