1. Title: Dental Anxiety: Assessing its burden and the effect of pre-treatment information communication among adult dental care seekers in Ibadan, Nigeria
Funder: Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA). PhD grant
Brief Summary: Dental Anxiety: Assessing its burden and the effect of pre-treatment information communication among adult dental care seekers in Ibadan, Nigeria: This is a mixed method research using both qualitative and quantitative research designs, to understand the factors associated with dental anxiety among adults and assess the effect of pre-treatment information communication (as an intervention) on dental anxiety.

Completed Research

1. Comparison of two pain measuring scales in assessing pain in children: A cross-sectional study comparing two pain scales (Visual Analogue Scale and Wong Baker Facial Pain Scale) in assessing dental pain among peadiatric patients and their parents/caregivers. Findings: The two pain scales can be used to assess pain in children and pain experience in children may be narrated by the parent/caregivers.

2. The Relationship between pain of irreversible pulpitis and salivary alpha-amylase level; study analyzed level of salivary alpha-amylase in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis compared with control. There was significantly higher level of salivary amylase in individuals with pain of endodontic origin compared with control. Salivary amylase level may be an alternative method of endodontic pain evaluation.
