The Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) cordially invites you to a special event honouring Professor Adesoji Adedipe Fasanmade on the occasion of his 70th birthday and retirement.

The valedictory event will take place at Abdullahi Ganduje Lecture Hall, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan on 3rd July, 2023 at 10:00am via Zoom and will be live-streamed on YouTube for wider participation. The event will include a guest lecture by Professor Lukman Olayaki, Professor of Physiology, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, and presentations and tributes from colleagues, students, and friends, highlighting Professor Fasanmade's remarkable journey and the impact he has had on medical research and community.

Personal Profile

Professor Adesoji Adedipe Fasanmade, an accomplished medical professional, is widely recognized for his significant contributions to the field of physiology and medicine. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Prof. Fasanmade has made remarkable advancements in the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular and endocrine disorders. His extensive knowledge and expertise have not only enriched the academic and medical communities but have also positively impacted patient care.

Prof. Fasanmade's academic journey began at the renowned University of Ibadan, where he completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. He furthered his education, obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Physiology from the same institution. Demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, he pursued a Commonwealth Medical Fellowship at the Institute of Physiology in Glasgow, UK.

As a professor of Physiology and Medicine at the University of Ibadan, Prof. Fasanmade has taught a range of subjects, including cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic physiology, imparting his expertise to the next generation of healthcare professionals. Prof. Fasanmade's teaching extends beyond the classroom, as he has supervised numerous research projects, dissertations, and theses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Prof. Fasanmade's clinical expertise as a consultant physician, with a focus on endocrinology, has been invaluable in diagnosing and treating patients with complex medical conditions. As the Head of the Endocrine Unit at the Department of Medicine in the University College Hospital, Ibadan, he played a pivotal role in providing high-quality care to patients while actively contributing to medical advancements through his research and publications.

In addition to his academic and clinical pursuits, Prof. Fasanmade has held several administrative positions, including Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. He has also served on various accreditation panels, contributing his expertise to enhance medical education and training programmes across Nigeria and beyond.
