Biography of Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo

Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo was born a few months prior to Nigeria’s independence to the family of Late Pa Michael and late Mama Abigail Adedapo of Akerara’s family Isale Osun Osogbo.

He had his elementary education at the famous St James’s Cathedral the Great, Oke Bola Ibadan between 1965-1972. After a brief period as a house-keeper, he gained admission to Methodist High School Ilesa between 1975-1980 where he finished in division 1. He attended the Polytechnic Ibadan for his HSC and gained admission to read Medicine at the University of Ibadan in the year 1982. He graduated with an MBBS degree in 1989 and had his housemanship with the Oyo State Hospitals Health Management board from 1990 – 1991. He participated and completed his NYSC in 1992 at a Primary Health Care Center in Lokoja, Kogi state.

He started residency training at the University College Hospital in Chemical Pathology and obtained the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP (Lab. Med) in the year 1999. The same year, Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo completed his master’s degree in Chemical Pathology.

He had a stint with the College of Health Sciences Obafemi Awolowo’s University as a Lecturer II from January 1999 to December 1999. He then returned to the University of Ibadan and joined the Department of Chemical Pathology College of Medicine as a Lecturer 1 in January 2000. Professor Kayode Adedapo rose through the ranks, and became a Senior Lecturer in 2007, Reader in 2014, and Professor in 2017. He took time off in 2008 to study Nuclear Medicine at the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg South Africa and returned to become one of the pioneer practitioners of Nuclear Medicine in the UCH.

Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo is an IAEA fellow and a member of many learned societies and professionals including the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), College of Nigerian Pathologists, West African College of Physician, and the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria. (MDCAN). He is an Examiner to the West African College of Physicians and an external examiner in many Universities in Nigeria. He is the current Revision Course Coordinator for the Laboratory Medicine arm of the West African College of Physicians.  Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo was appointed the Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee of the University College Hospital in charge of the laboratories during the period 2011- 2013. Before this time, he had served as the Postgraduate Coordinator of the Department of Chemical Pathology for a period of 2 years. He is a member of several committees at the faculty and the College level.

Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo currently holds a joint appointment with the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Faculty of Clinical Sciences and has been the current head since August 2022. He is also an associate lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Ibadan. Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo is a recipient of many grants including Macarthur and Senate Research grants and 3 travel grants from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Thailand, India, and Texas in 2002, 2005, and 2019 for the study on National Neonatal Screening on Hypothyroidism, Clinical Applications of Nuclear Medicine, and Quality control Processes in a Nuclear Medicine facility respectively. He also had several scientific visits on Nuclear Medicine to Vienna, Austria.

Outside the University, Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo was appointed a member of Cancer Steering committee of 2015 that drafted the Cancer Policy for Nigeria for 2015 -2022. He is as external examiner to many Universities in Nigeria, including the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ladoke Akintola University Olabisi Onabanjo University to mention but a few. 

Professor Adedapo has served as the Chairman of his Residential Community for 2 terms of 4 years between the year 2016 to year 2020 and has been a Pastor with the Heritage of God Ministry, Ibadan since 1997.

Professor Kayode Solomon Adedapo has authored/co- authored more than 80 publications in peer reviewed journals and 2 chapters in books to his credit.

He is married to Professor Aduragbenro Adedapo of the department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and they are blessed with 3 children who are holding their places in different endeavors of life.
