Professor IkeOluwapo O. Ajayi

IkeOluwapo Oyeneye Ajayi, MB;BS, M.Cl.Sc, MPH, Ph.D, MD, FMCGP, FWACP is a Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics Department, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Consultant Family Physician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Prof. Ajayi had certificate training in Bioethics, Field Epidemiology and Monitoring and Evaluation. She has more than 30 years of experience in research and training at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She is a member of the team/resource persons that facilitated setting up of the Bioethics programme in institutions across Nigeria. She is also a Faculty in the Center for Bioethics and Research and lecturer in Bioethics and Research Training Programme of the University of Ibadan.

She has been extensively involved in community-based implementation/translational research and collaborative studies in communicable and non-communicable diseases including malaria, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cervical and breast cancers. Prof Ajayi is Senior visiting Lown Scholar, with The Bernard Lown Scholars in Cardiovascular Health Program of the Harvard School of Public Health and has contributed to mentoring of junior fellows. She is the Nigeria country level Principal Investigator for Africa/HSPH Partnership for Cohort Research and Training (Africa/HSPH PaCT) group. This is a study team for multi-country large-scale longitudinal study on non-communicable diseases in sub-Saharan Africa comprising researchers from Africa and the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH).

Prof Ajayi is a recipient of many prizes and awards. She won the prestigious award - The Nigeria Prize for Science, 2017 awarded by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (Nigeria LNG) Company with the theme “innovations in malaria control”. She has over 180 publications in international and local peer reviewed journals. She serves on committees and boards in organisations such as TDR/WHO, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme and Centre for Palliative Care, Nigeria.

 She assumed office as the Director, Institute of Advanced Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT), College of Medicine, University of Ibadan 2nd of August, 2021.
