Biography:

Professor Modupeola Arowojolu gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 1975 for Preliminary Studies in Science for one year and later commenced her degree course in Dental Surgery in 1976 and graduated with Bachelor of Dental Surgery, BDS, in the year 1981.

 She commenced her Residency programme at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan in 1987 which she completed in 1993, with the award of Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS).  Her first academic appointment with the University of Ibadan (U.I) as Lecturer I, was in 1993 and she rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Periodontology (a specialty in Dental Surgery) in 2005.

 She also obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Epidemiology & Biostatistics in 2005 from the University of Ibadan and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Dental Surgery (FMCDS) in 2009.

Professor Modupeola Arowojolu was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the International College of Dentists (FICD) in 2011, Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Specialties ( FAMedS) in 2021 and the Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2021.

She has held numerous appointments in the University of Ibadan, including the Dean, Faculty of Dentistry 2010-2014; Ag. Head ,Department of Preventive Dentistry, 1999 – 2001; Ag. Head ,Department of Periodontology and Community Dentistry, 2006 – 2009; and Substantive Head, Department of Periodontology and Community Dentistry 2015 to 2019.   She belongs to several professional bodies and organizations, including Membership of the American Academy of Periodontology and Fellowship of the Institute of Industrial Administration.

She also holds an appointment with the Research Board of Advisors of the American Biographical Institute.

She is a Resource person/Examiner to the Faculty of Dental Surgery, West African College of Surgeons, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). She is currently an external examiner to University of Lagos, University of Benin, Benin City, and University of Ghana .

Prof. Modupe Arowojolu has supervised several projects/Dissertations and thesis for Masters in Dental Surgery and Fellowship of Postgraduate Medical Colleges. She was a recipient of the following grants, University of Ibadan Senate Research Grant (SRG/COM/1996/28A); (SRG/COM/2000/53A); SRG/COM/2006/56A) and (SRG/FD/2010/IB).

She also received the University Advancement Board Research Grant ARG/2009/5B in 2009.

She is a reviewer of several scientific journals. Her completed Research include – Effects of Systemic disease/conditions on the Periodontium (Sickle cell Anaemia, Diabetes Mellitus, Leukemia, Hypertension, Pregnancy and HIV/AIDS); Dentinal Hypersensitivity, Aggressive Periodontitis among others.

She has well over 67 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
