Professor Georgina N. ODAIBO

Personal Statement
I am a Virologist with over 13 years of teaching and research experience at the University level. I have also had in- country and overseas trainings on research implementation. I was a research Fellow of Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwepen, Belgium and a Visiting Scientist to learn virus cloning and sequencing techniques at the Biomedical Research Institute, Georg Speyer Haus, Germany and I trained in Professor Phyllis Kanki’s Laboratory at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA on molecular epidemiology of HIV in Nigeria. I was the Co-PI of the APIN supported on HIV/TB project in Oyo State. I am a Co-Investigator of the University of Ibadan NIH Medical Education Partnership Initiative in Nigeria (MEPIN) program and the Science and Technology Education Post Basic, STEP-B supported University of Ibadan Centre for Infectious and Zoonotic Diseases program. I am a Reader and the current Acting Head of Department of Virology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Laboratory coordinator of the US government Harvard PEPFAR project in UCH. I have supervised three Ph.D. research projects and over 20 M.Sc. dissertations in virology. My current research areas are viral epidemiology, diagnostic virology, retrovirology and hepatitis viruses. I am a team player with interest in collaborative research within and outside Nigeria.
