Biography:

Professor Elizabeth Bosede Dosumu is a distinguished clinical periodontologist and academician, specializing in non-surgical periodontal therapy and a sub-specialty in the motivation and assessment of factors that influence the diagnosis and progression of periodontal diseases in our environment, such as the risk and prognostic indicators for periodontal diseases. These factors affect its progression and the effect of non-surgical periodontal management. She is widely acknowledged for her substantial contributions to the non-surgical periodontal sub-specialty, research, education, and periodontal disease awareness and prevention.
Professor Dosumu earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. She holds a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Periodontology (FMCDS) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
Professor Elizabeth Dosumu is a member of the Court of Examiners, Faculty of Dental Surgery, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, the Faculty of Dentistry Board, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and the GSK Round-table Committee on Dentine Hypersensitivity and Nigerian Dental Therapists Board. She is also a member of the British Society of Periodontology (BSP), European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), International Association for Halitosis Research (IAFHR), and the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR). Other professional associations include the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Periodontal Association of Nigeria (PAN), Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Nigerian Dental Association (NDA), and Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN).
Professor Dosumu convened and organized the Department of Periodontology & Community Dentistry National Conference (22nd - 24th January 2013) by inviting Dr. Phil Ower, past president of BSP, to deliver a series of periodontology lectures and perform hands-on surgical periodontal procedures. She also convened and organized a webinar for the Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (25th March 2015) by inviting Professor France Lambert DDS, MS, PhD, Department of Periodontology & Oral Surgery, Dental Biomaterials Unit (d-BRU) CHU of Liege, University of Liege, Belgium. Professor Lambert delivered the lecture titled: "Simplification of Implant Protocol." These impactful events were facilitated through her active membership in the BSP and EFP and by inviting lecturers who are members of these same professional bodies.
Her extensive work experience includes serving as the Acting Head of the Department of Periodontology & Community Dentistry from August 2011 to July 2013, conducting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and fulfilling roles as an external examiner and resource person for various educational institutions. Furthermore, Professor Dosumu has contributed as an examiner for the Faculty of Dental Surgery, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and served as an associate editor for prestigious journals like the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical Journal.
