Brief Biography: Ayo is a Ph.D degree holder in Demography and Statistics but trained as a Technical and Medical Demographer/Statistician in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and University of Ibadan, Ibadan. He has an interdisciplinary research experience, utilizing Demography and Biostatistics to improve understanding of mechanisms underlying contemporary population health and social problems. He had his 1-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Population Training and Research Unit, North-West University, South Africa in 2013. He has received several awards including: Ondo-State Scholarship Board Merit Award, 1989; Best graduating student in Mathematical Sciences Department, Ondo State University (Now Ekiti State University), Ado-Ekiti, 1992; Teaching Assistant Award, University of Lagos, 2005; Visiting Scholar, University of Witwatersrand, 2012; Most Productive Post-Doctoral Research Fellow award at North-West University, South Africa, 2014; Visiting Researcher Award, University of Cape Town, South Africa, 2017; Trialect Clinical Trials Fellowship award, Paris, France, 2019; Travel Award Recipient, Advanced Biostatistical Methods: Multilevel Models and Cluster-Randomized Trials, Organized by Brown University School of Public Health, USA, 2019 and host of others. He has participated in numerous National and International health programmes and surveys including cross-countries analysis of DHS dataset in sub-Saharan Africa. He has authored two textbooks and has over 100 research publications in peer reviewed journals. TEACHING AND SUPERVISION EXPERIENCE:   

  1. Experiences of teaching in undergraduate programmes

Right from my undergraduate years, I have engaged myself in teaching tutorials to my fellow students across all degree lines. As a lecturer in a polytechnic in my early academic career, I taught demography and statistical related courses in business, management, engineering and applied sciences for about 7 years. In my present place of work, I teach demography and biostatistics to undergraduate medical students.

  1. Experience of teaching in post-graduate programmes

Since my resumption as a lecturer in University of Ibadan in 2007, I have been involved in the teaching of Post-Graduate students. In conjunction with other colleagues, I teach courses such as; mathematical demography, mathematical biology, advanced demographic techniques, principles of population change, demographic methods, basic statistical procedures, univariate distribution, sample survey, survival analysis and research methodology.

  1. Experience in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
  1. I have supervised about 50 undergraduate students (at Polytechnic & University level) since the onset of my teaching career.
  2. I have supervised 28 Masters Students who have completed their programmes in Medical Demography, Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the University of Ibadan. I currently supervise 2 Ph.D. and 6 Masters Students.

Analysis of contemporary population issues; Applied demography; probability modelling of health related data; Survival analysis

  1. Mentoring:

I provide professional advice to young faculty members and students who share similar research agenda with me in my institution. My interactions with these young promising academics have earned them publications in learned journals and conference participation in different parts of the world. I have been assigned as mentors to young professionals in some population associations and African Academy of Science.
