Akanni Olayinka LAWANSON BEd. Ed Mgt/Economics, MSc (Ib), PhD (Ib)

Professor Akanni Olayinka LAWANSON is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan. He holds a Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours) in Educational Management and Economics, a Master of Science in Economics, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, all from the University of Ibadan. His distinguished academic trajectory includes a PhD thesis research grant from the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and multiple prizes for academic excellence as an undergraduate.

Professor Lawanson's teaching portfolio is extensive, spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for over two decades. He has taught courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Health Economics, Quantitative Analysis, and Managerial Economics. He has supervised more than 95 undergraduate projects and over 76 Master's theses, and has successfully graduated three PhD students, with several more under his mentorship. His administrative experience is notable, having served as Head of the Department of Accounting, Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) of the School of Economics, and Director of various undergraduate programmes at the University of Ibadan. He is also a member of the University Senate.

His research is profoundly interdisciplinary, focusing on the intersection of economics and public health. He has led and contributed to numerous high-impact, funded research projects, including the Demographic Dividend for Nigeria (funded by UNFPA), National Health Accounts Estimates (funded by WHO and the Federal Ministry of Health), and several AERC-funded studies on trade, capital flight, and healthcare financing in Africa. He is a member of several prestigious learned societies, including the International Health Economics Association (IHEA), the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), and the National Transfer Account (NTA) Global Network. His scholarly output includes edited books, numerous chapters in books, and recent publications in high-impact journals such as The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and BMC Public Health, with research addressing stunting reduction, Mpox, and health financing. He continues to contribute actively to global academic discourse, presenting papers at major international conferences worldwide.
