NELSON M. OYESIKU, AN ALUMNUS OF THE MBBS GRADUATING CLASS OF 1979 RECEIVES THE HIGHEST HONORS IN NEUROSURGERY

On behalf of all Staff, Students and Alumni of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), I congratulate Professor Nelson M. Oyesiku, a Distinguished Alumni of the MBBS Graduating Class of 1979. He has been selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).

This Award is described as “one of the highest honors in neurosurgery — recognises an individual for exceptional accomplishments and leadership within CNS and the profession at large. The recipient is selected by a committee comprising the three most-recent CNS Past Presidents, who weigh a candidate’s service to CNS, enduring contributions to the organization’s educational mission, and mentorship of early career neurosurgeons, among other criteria”. Professor Oyesiku is Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The attached pdf document gives more information.

Professor Odunayo M. Oluwatosin of the Department of Surgery, CoMUI, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the University College Hospital, a former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, and a classmate (1979) of Professor Oyesiku’s had very kindly informed me about this award.

We are extremely proud of Professor Oyesiku’s accomplishments and wish him more accolades and opportunities for service. We look forward to receiving him here in his alma mater on a visit in the not too distant future.
