About Us/History of the Faculty: 

The Faculty of Nursing, University of Ibadan, holds the distinction of being the first institution in Nigeria to offer degree-level education in nursing. Established in 1965, the Faculty began as a Department within the Faculty of Medicine and was later upgraded to full Faculty status in 2023, reflecting its academic growth and contributions to health education and research in Nigeria and beyond.

From its inception, the Faculty has remained at the forefront of nursing education, research, and practice, producing highly skilled nursing professionals who have gone on to lead in clinical care, academia, policy, and global health.

The Faculty offers undergraduate (BNSc. Nursing), postgraduate (M.Sc., Ph.D.), and professional training programmes, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and community-oriented care. It also maintains active collaborations with international institutions and health organizations, contributing significantly to capacity building and healthcare improvement in Africa.

With a tradition of academic excellence and service, the Faculty of Nursing continues to uphold the University of Ibadan’s legacy as Nigeria’s premier university, advancing the nursing profession through innovation, scholarship, and leadership.
