Dr. Tawakalit Olubukola Salam is a visionary leader and Consultant Family Physician at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria, with over a decade of clinical and administrative experience. She has distinguished herself as a strategic leader in healthcare and public health advocacy.

She holds a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management and an MBA in
Entrepreneurship and Operations Management, equipping her with the tools to lead complex health systems and drive policy innovation.

Dr. Salam is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP), the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON), the Institute of Policy Management and Leadership Development (FIPMLD) and the International Professional ManagersUK (FCIPM). She also holds certifications in Travel Medicine (CTMPN) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH-Geneva).

Dr. Salam is currently a Lecturer I in the Department of Health Policy and Management, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and serves as an adjunct lecturer in the Family Medicine Unit, Department of Community Medicine, University of Ibadan. She also serves as the Deputy Head of the Special Duties Unit at UCH Ibadan, where she leads institutional initiatives to enhance service delivery, policy implementation, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient-centred care, hospital-wide responsiveness, and operational excellence.

Dr. Salam is a mentor and supervisor for resident doctors pursuing the Family Medicine fellowship under the West African College of Physicians, shaping the next generation of family physicians through rigorous training and mentorship. She is also a reviewer and ethics advisor, contributing to scholarly excellence as a reviewer for journals such as ANNALS of Ibadan Postgraduate Medicine, DOKITA, and PLOS ONE, and the UI/UCH Research Ethics Committee. She has authored and coauthored scientific publications in both local and international journals.

She has held executive and advisory roles in numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON), Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine (NSTM), Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), ZONTA International and African Organization for Young Family Physicians (AFRIWON). She is also a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), and International Professional Managers Association (IPMA-UK).

Her leadership is marked by a passion for health system reform, public health advocacy, and medical education. Dr. Salam is widely respected for her ability to inspire teams, influence policy, and deliver results.
