 Brief Biography:

Dr Mukaila O AKINWALE had secondary education at Martin Luther King High School (now High School of Science and Technology) Manhattan, New York, USA and received High school Diploma in 1986.
He won a Federal Government scholarship to study Medicine in the Former USSR in 1987. He thereafter obtained MD (General Medicine) in 1994 from Minsk State Medical Institute, (now Belarussian State Medical University) Minsk, Belarus (former USSR).
He obtained a postgraduate Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2003 from the University of Lagos and did residency training in Anaesthesia at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria from 2004-2010 obtaining a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Anaesthesia (FMCA). He received Oduntan Prize in Anaesthesia for the best candidate in Anaesthesia Part 2 for 2010.
He obtained Certificate in Palliative Care from the Center for Palliative Care, Nigeria and Hospice Africa, Uganda in 2013. He had one-year training in Palliative Medicine and obtained Fellowship in Palliative Medicine at the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode, Kerala, India in 2021.
Akinwale worked as Consultant Anaesthetist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan from 2010 – 2015. He joined College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 2015 as Lecturer 1 and Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist, University College Hospital the same year. He assumed the Headship of the Hospice and Palliative Care Department in 2020.

The main area of Dr Akinwale’s interests includes Regional anaesthesia, acute and chronic pain management and palliative care.

Title: Environmental scan of institutional PC centers in Nigeria - exploratory and descriptive first-line survey for the establishment of a context/evidence-based palliative care centre in LUTH
Funder: Mulloly Carey Foundation
Brief Summary: the study is an environmental scan of institution-based palliative care centres across Nigeria to ensure that the best help and support is provided to patients, in need of both palliative and hospice care, frequenting the tertiary health centers either as inpatient or outpatient and to measure the outcome of existent palliative care programs.
