Biography:
Michael Akinade ALATISE PhD, MBA, FCA, FCTI, AFAR, CIS
Dr. Michael Akinade ALATISE is a distinguished financial expert and academic with over three decades of experience in university financial management and administration. He currently serves as the Director of Budgetary and Financial Planning at the University of Ibadan, a position he has held since August 2022. He brings a unique combination of professional accountancy practice and academic scholarship to the Department of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Public Health.
Dr. Alatise holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting (2018) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Accounting (2015) from Babcock University. He also earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Accounting (Second Class Upper Division) from Olabisi Onabanjo University (2010) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ibadan (2003). His foundational qualifications include a Higher National Diploma (HND) and an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Accounting from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), a Fellow of the Association of Forensic Accounting Researchers (AFAR), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).
His professional journey at the University of Ibadan began in July 2001, and he has progressed through the ranks from Senior Accountant to Bursar, a position he held from November 2018 to November 2020. His extensive administrative experience includes serving as Deputy Bursar (Finance) and Deputy Bursar (Grants Management). He has also contributed to university governance as Vice Chairman of the Association of Bursars of Nigerian Universities from 2017 to 2020.
Dr. Alatise's research interests focus on public sector budgeting, sustainable development in federal universities, performance-based budgeting, and the intersection of financial inclusion and economic growth. His scholarly contributions have appeared in reputable journals, including Cogent Economics & Finance, WSEAS Transactions on Business and Economics, and Gender & Behaviour Journal. His doctoral dissertation examined public sector budgeting and sustainable development in Nigerian federal universities, and he continues to research external debt dynamics, IFRS adoption, and sustainable economic growth. He teaches financial and management accounting courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the university.
