Biography:

Josephine Oluyemisi Adeolu joined the University College Hospital in October, 2018 as a Hospital Consultant at the Tony Aneni Geriatric Centre and was later deployed to the Institute of Child Health in January, 2019; this was because her primary interest was in Child and Adolescent Health but she was initially offered a job at the Geriatric centre which she performed with diligence and goodwill. She has risen through the ranks and is currently a Special Grade 1 Hospital Consultant (2025). She is also an associate lecturer at the Institute which she volunteered to be.

Josephine Adeolu has a wide range of competencies from medicine and surgery, epidemiology, biostatistics, nutritional health, reproductive health, child and adolescent health, occupational health, environmental health, health promotion and education, and health policy and management. She has a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery (M.B;B.S) at the University of Ibadan and a specialization training in Community Health (FWACP) at the Department of Community Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan. She has a Masters in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics both from the University of Ibadan. She has certificates from the Hasselt University, Belgium in Generalized Linear Models, Multivariate and Hierarchical Analysis, Linear Models, Non-parametric Methods, Introduction to Bayesian Inference, Sampling Theory, Software and Data Management, and Computer Intensive Methods. She is proficient with the use of R and SPSS statistical softwares.

She supervises the running of the Immunization Clinic, the Doctors’ Consulting Clinic and the Laboratory at the Institute. She developed a system of regular monthly meeting of all stakeholders for reviewing of the clinic system and upscaling it. She also resuscitated the nutrition clinic and food demonstration which was moribund. This was done in collaboration with the Director of the Institute (Prof. Adebola Orimadegun), the Matron (Mrs Onireti), the Department of Nutrition, University of Ibadan and the Dietetics Department, University College Hospital, Ibadan. She also resuscitated the doctors’ consulting clinic which was moribund and instituted the newborn screening clinic.

She has taught Masters students for two sessions in three courses, namely Nutrition in Pregnancy, Nutritional Surveillance, Inter-relationship and interdependency of growth, development, and nutrition. She has supervised Masters Students at the Institute and collaborates with the Department of Nutrition, University of Ibadan in research and supervision of students.

She develops and collaborates in researches both within and outside the Institute. One of such is a recently concluded multi-million-naira award nutritional trial (ALADDIN) in which she was a co-Principal Investigator. Together with the Principal Investigator, Prof. Adebola Orimadegun, who is the current Director of the Institute, funds generated from the ALADDIN project were invested into machines for investigations in the laboratory and aesthetics of the Institute. Due to her knowledge and expertise of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, she has collaborated in research across a wide range of specialties; however, her interest is in child and adolescent health, particularly child nutrition.
