Adaptation of Influenza virus in mice and Immunomodulatory potentials of ‘DEF’, a polyherbal formulation, on FLU A infected mice.

Research strengths

  • Scientific validation of ethnobotanical-acclaimed medicinal properties of plants
  • Thorough knowledge on the assessment of hepatoprotective properties of medicinal plants extracts using suppressive, curative and prophylactic tests
  • Theoretical knowledge on various molecular biology skills, including recombinant DNA technology, and tissue culture techniques
  • Animal handling
  • Liver homogenate isolation
  • Sound knowledge on free radical chemistry and Antioxidants
  • Methods of testing the potency of novel antioxidants from plants
  • Primary liver hepatocytes isolation
  • Investigative techniques in identification / characterisation of a plant as a novel antioxidant
  • Adaptation, inoculation and propagation of influenza virus in chicken embryonated eggs and cell line; harvesting of the virus; viral titre determination (Haemaglutination (HA) and Haemaglutination Inhibition (HI) tests) and TCID50 determination.
