Dr Foluso Atiba is a dentist and an anatomy lecturer at the University of Ibadan. In 2004, she graduated with a degree in dentistry and earned a Master's in Human Nutrition from the University of Ibadan in 2008. She began her career as a dentist with specialist training and joined the department of Anatomy as a lecturer in 2011. She earned a second Master of Science in Anatomy in 2014 and her Master of Philosophy in Neuroscience in 2018 from the University of Ibadan. She is pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at the School of anatomical sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Her awards and scholarships result from her exceptional research, journal articles, and publication output. She has spoken at conferences and workshops on the local, national, and international levels. Dr Atiba was awarded an international brain research grants by IBRO to a teaching school in Morocco (2013) and invited to present at the 11th and 13th International Conferences of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA), Rabat-Morocco (2013) and Entebbe-Uganda (2017). She is also a PhD fellow of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) (2018), a Trialect training fellow at Liverpool John Moore’s University, United Kingdom (2019), and (2020), recipient of Tertiary trust FUND, University of Ibadan, bench work grants (2020), Alba Fkne Yibro Diversity Grant Recipients (2020) and travel award to International Society of Neurochemistry conference, Honolulu, USA, 2022.

She is a highly accomplished dentist, scholar, educator, and devoted mentor who has influenced the careers of numerous students within and beyond her institution and on a global scale. She is an active member and officer of multiple national and international scientific and professional organizations.

Area of specialization

The publications of Dr Foluso Atiba are in the field of Neuroscience and craniofacial anatomy. The early part of her research focused on the various impacts of prenatal exposure to plant extracts and alternative medicine on the development of the nervous system, as well as their likely immediate implications or possible long-term effects on cognitive function. She also researched oral pathology and oral biology, with a secondary focus on craniofacial (maxillofacial) anatomy development in various animal and human subjects.

Other Interest/Hobbies

Dr Foluso Atiba 2

Driving is therapeutic to me. It has always been my escape pod whenever I need to relax and make important decisions. Isn’t that funny? To some driving is stressful but to me it has the opposite effects on me.  I drive within and outside the state but enjoy driving interstate more because of the less traffic. Driving is a welcoming hobby to me at any time.

My second hobby is cooking. I love cooking both local and international dishes. Guess I enjoy more of the satisfying expression on my family and guests than the cooking itself. This makes me feel fulfilled. I see cooking as an art and can relate it to caring for my patients or preparing a technique in the laboratory. From knowing the right quantity of ingredients/reagents to getting the desired products. Cooking is a way of life that helps me to balance my everyday activities.
