Folakemi Olabisi AJAGUNNA LL.B (Ib), LLM (Ib), MPH (Ib), PhD (Ib)

Dr. Folakemi Olabisi Ajagunna is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan. She holds a multidisciplinary academic background, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), a Master of Laws (LL.M), a Doctor of Laws (PhD), and a Master of Public Health (MPH), all from the University of Ibadan. She also holds the Nigerian Bar Qualifying Certificate (BL) from the Council of Legal Education and is a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Dr. Ajagunna was appointed Lecturer II in December 2015 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in October 2022. Her teaching portfolio spans both law and public health, covering courses such as Nigerian Land Law, Equity and Trusts, Reproductive Health Rights Law, Medical Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Law and Health Policy at the postgraduate level. She has supervised forty-nine undergraduate projects and nine postgraduate projects, with several more currently under her mentorship. Her administrative experience is extensive, having served as Examination Officer for the Department of Private and Property Law for five years and as Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) of the Faculty of Law from 2020 to 2025. She has also served on multiple university committees, including the Senate Admissions Committee and three Research Ethics Committees.

Her research interests lie at the critical intersection of law, ethics, and public health, with a particular focus on reproductive health rights, medical law, assisted reproductive technologies, and the legal dimensions of infectious disease control. She has contributed book chapters to international publications and has published extensively in learned journals, including the African Journal of Reproductive Health, the African Journal of International and Comparative Law, and the International Journal of Clinical Legal Education. Her recent work examines ethical issues in genome editing, conscientious objection in abortion care, and the legal status of the human embryo in in-vitro fertilisation. She is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers, and continues to present her research at major international conferences worldwide.
