CELEBRATION OF FIVE DECADES OF HAEMATOLOGY RESEARCH, TRAINING AND PRACTICE: Scientific Sessions

A seminar on Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD) was held in honour of Professor Luzzatto on Tuesday 22nd February 2022. The Chief Resident in Haematology, Dr. John Akulue, delivered this seminar. On Wednesday 23/02/2022, Professor Luzzatto led the Consultant Ward Round.  

The event of the 24th of February consisting mostly of reminiscences by the founding fathers held at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre. The event was chaired by the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun. The Chief Medical Director of UCH was represented by Dr. Moshood Adeoye, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC). Also present were Dr. Obaro Michael, the Deputy CMAC Research and Ethics, UCH.

Professor Luzzatto delivered the first lecture and this was followed by lectures delivered by Professor Fola Esan and other distinguished founding fathers.

The event of the second day, 25 February 2020 consisted of abstract presentations by health professionals at home and abroad that had trained in the department. The presentations were mostly based on research projects on all aspects of Haematology and included research on Sickle Cell Disease, Oncology, Thrombosis & Haemostasis and Blood transfusion. The presentations ended with a round table discussion, which was to chart the course for the future.
