ABOUT US
The Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (ICVD) was established in September 2018 to be a leading training center specializing in various fields of cardiovascular medicine. Its creation was approved by the Council of the University of Ibadan. Situated within the South campus of University College Hospital, the definitive housing is presently under construction and needing funding assistance for completion. The present collaborating institutions include the University of Ibadan, College of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) of Nigeria, Bambini Cardiopatici nel Mondo, Milan, Italy, and IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, Milan, Italy.

This collaborative effort aims to establish a two-arm cardiovascular center, comprising a Research Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases (ICVD) and a 100-bed clinical Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases (CCVD). The key objective is the creation of an advanced cardiovascular training hub which along with similar institutions, will go a long way in positively addressing the requisite cardiovascular healthcare needs across Nigeria and Africa.

The ICVD facilities will when completed include research laboratories, a clinical trial unit (CTU) conference and lecture rooms for Postgraduate Students (Masters and PhD), as well as Post Doctoral Fellows, staff and visiting Professors offices, and a 10-ensuite-room accommodation for Trainees and visitors on the 4th floor. The ICVD will be seamlessly linked to the one-hundred bedded CCVD designed to feature cutting-edge facilities like operating theaters, cardiac catheterization laboratories, specialized wards for pediatric and adult cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery units, and other state-of-the-art medical amenities.

OUR  MISSION

• Provide a training and capacity development platform in the various disciplines of cardiovascular medicine.
• Provide a platform for clinical trials and other aspects of translational research which will be locally adaptable while conforming with international best practices.
• Enhance collaboration with industry, academia and other private sector partners (e.g., Alumni in the diaspora in Cardiovascular medical practice) for sustainable research into cardiovascular diseases curation and prevention.
